Professional Development For
Educators
“Constructive information I will take back and use with my teaching. I will also share and pass on the useful ideas and strategies with my teaching colleagues.
Teacher, Professional Development 2019

In addition to working with students we also offer professional development courses, done in small groups or as a whole school, to build understanding and skills for educators around the below areas:
2. Behaviour....It's deeper than you think (2hrs)
When children walk into our classroom they are not carbon copies of each other and all come with their own backstory, challenges and strengths. One of the most common complaints from teachers is the behaviour of the student; whether it is disrespectful, aggressive, disengaged or just apathetic. However, as educators this is something that cannot be put to the side or overlooked. This workshop will look at the reasoning behind behaviours, highlighting the importance of really knowing our students and not reacting to the behaviours they demonstrate but understanding the function of them. Through theory and subsequent practical applications, in small groups, you will learn how to see past the behaviour and get to the heart of how to change a child's unwanted behaviour through relationship.
3. Modifying the Curriculum (2hrs)
Modifying and adapting the curriculum is a fine balance between making it achievable while ensuring it is still challenging. Teachers can struggle to understand how to make the same curriculum accessible to the diversity of their classroom. In this interactive workshop teachers will be given explicit examples of how to implement effective adaptations to ensure a consistent curriculum is presented to all students. In small groups you will work on practical examples to demonstrate and hone your skill for your own classroom.
4. Moving Beyond the Zones (2hrs)
The zones are a great resource when used correctly, however, many schools have negated their use through misapplication and a misunderstanding of what they are trying to achieve. Through discussion and demonstration of how to get to the core of emotions we will look at how we can help students to regulate themselves. This involves ensuring students understand and can recognise their own (and others) emotions, have body awareness around what happens to themselves when they feel certain emotions and how to prevent these emotions from 'overtaking' causing emotional outbursts. Through practical exercises, group interactions and specific discussion you will be able to implement it into your classroom to ensure the zones are being successfully.
