Executive Functioning
Executive functioning skills encompass a set of eight operations crucial for regulating behaviours and actions, facilitating the development of independence, confidence, and capability as individuals navigate the complexities of adulthood. While these skills are imperative, they may not always come naturally. Some individuals benefit from intentional and consistent support, along with exposure to these skills to assist in their development, fostering confidence and independence in knowing when and how to apply them.
Executive Functioning Skills: 1. Inhibition: Impulse control and regulation. 2. Task Initiation and Shifting: Beginning tasks independently and transitioning between them, problem-solving as necessary. 3. Emotional Control: Regulating and demonstrating appropriate emotional responses. 4. Goal Setting: Initiating tasks or activities and independently generating ideas. 5. Working Memory: Maintaining goals, applying decision-making, and retrieving information from memory. 6. Planning and Organization: Applying future thinking to ensure progress towards the ultimate goal, intentionally organizing actions to execute a plan. 7. Organization of Materials/Resources: Ensuring workspaces, play areas, etc., are kept tidy and manageable. 8. Self-Monitoring: Recognizing behaviours and their impact on circumstances and goals, evaluating potential changes for future endeavours. Our program is designed to provide the necessary support and exposure to these skills, fostering the confident and independent application of executive functioning skills in various aspects of life.
