Customised employment is a individualised approach to finding and securing job opportunities, and work experience. The approach tailors opportunities to match the unique strengths, skills, interests, and support needs of individuals with disabilities. Unlike traditional employment and work experience models, which often involve fitting individuals into existing job roles, customised employment seeks to create or modify jobs based on the individual's abilities and preferences.
Key features of customised employment include: 1. Individualised Job Development: We work closely with individuals to identify their strengths, skills, and interests. From there, we explore or create job opportunities that align with the individual's profile by approaching employers and working with them to carve out a suitable job. 2. Job Carving: This involves breaking down a job into specific tasks or responsibilities that match the individual's abilities. It allows for the creation of a tailored job description that fits the person's skills and preferences. 3. Negotiation with Employers: Customised employment often involves negotiations with employers to create a job position or modify an existing one to suit the individual's abilities. Employer benefits from the division of tasks previously left incomplete, producing a more engaged and productive workforce. 4. Flexible Work Arrangements: Customised employment embraces flexible work arrangements, often with reduced hours and/or days. This is considered and discussed with both you and the potential employer. 5. Natural Supports: The approach focuses on integrating individuals into the workplace with the assistance of natural supports including co-workers, supervisors, and workplace mentors—who help facilitate the individual's success. It is important to note that an outside mentor may be required at the beginning and at different stages during the process, but the aim is to reduce/remove that need and rely on natural support. Overall, customised employment aims to promote inclusivity in the workforce by recognising and leveraging the diverse talents and abilities of individuals, fostering a more meaningful and fulfilling work experience. This approach contributes to a more inclusive and diverse work environment, benefiting both employees and employers. |
Mentor Role
At All For Learning, we take on the responsibility of identifying job opportunities tailored to the individual's unique strengths and interests. We proactively engage with employers, exploring potential roles within their businesses, and carefully match these opportunities to the individual.
In addition to job placement, we offer comprehensive support to both the individual and their family. This includes assisting with the creation of resumes, honing job-related skills, and developing specific competencies to enhance the individual's success in their chosen role.
During the initial phase, we collaborate closely with the individual and the employer to ensure that the job aligns appropriately and is engaging for the individual. As the individual integrates into the workplace, our support gradually transitions to promoting the establishment of natural supports within the work environment—encouraging a sustainable and inclusive workplace culture.
While we step back from direct involvement, we remain easily accessible to the employer, employee, and their family. Our commitment extends to addressing any challenges or concerns that may arise and implementing additional support if needed.
This process is eligible for funding under the NDIS School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES) Funding, specifically for individuals in their final year of study or those who have completed schooling within the last two years.
